How to judge a hair transplant
You searched for the best hair transplant in Australia. Here's how to tell.
Every clinic says it's the best. Ask these five questions instead.
Who actually holds the punch?
In many clinics a doctor consults and technicians do the work.
How are grafts kept alive outside the body?
A follicle starts dying the moment it leaves the scalp.
Is the hairline designed for you at 55, or just for today?
A low, straight hairline looks great at 28 and wrong at 50.
Will they tell you no?
A clinic paid per graft has every reason to say yes to everyone.
Who do you call in month four?
Shock loss, slow growth, a patch that worries you. Recovery is where the questions happen.
What the morning looks like
Your first hour is spent on a pencil line.
You and the doctor draw the hairline together before a single graft is taken. It isn't rushed and it isn't delegated.
The first hour is yours and the doctor's.

Adjust until it's right. Nothing is committed until you agree.
Clip, map, wash. Then the day begins.

Clinical photography
Recent cases, photographed the same way every time.
Same wall, same angle, no retouching. Look at the hairline edge in each pair. That's where a transplant is won or lost.

Results are individual and depend on hair thickness, donor availability and the extent of loss. Photographs are unedited and shown with patient consent. All invasive procedures carry risks, including infection and shock loss. Before proceeding, seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Before you say yes
The things we'll tell you that an ad won't.
A hair transplant is an invasive medical procedure. You'll hear this again from Dr Noosh in person.
Risks include
- Infection, bleeding and swelling of the forehead or around the eyes
- Shock loss: temporary shedding of existing hair near the recipient or donor area
- Variable graft survival and slower or patchier growth than expected
- Small dot scars in the donor area, visible if hair is clipped very short
- Numbness or altered sensation of the scalp, usually temporary
- Folliculitis (inflamed follicles) during regrowth
- Continued loss of non-transplanted hair, which may need medical treatment or further procedures
What to expect from recovery
- Most people take 3 to 7 days off work and avoid strenuous exercise for about two weeks
- Visible healing takes one to three weeks; final results are judged at 12 months
- You'll be asked to follow a specific washing, sleeping and medication routine
- Outcomes depend on your hair calibre, donor density, scalp condition and adherence to aftercare
- You are encouraged to seek a second opinion from another appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding
Brisbane vs overseas
Cheaper abroad. Then what?
Packages overseas can cost less up front. Here's what else changes.
| Question | Hairline Clinic, Brisbane | Typical overseas package |
|---|---|---|
| Who performs extraction and placement? | Dr Noosh, a registered medical practitioner | Often technicians, with the doctor consulting or supervising |
| Regulation | AHPRA and TGA. A clear complaints pathway if something goes wrong | Varies by country; limited recourse from Australia |
| Follow-up | In-person reviews in Brisbane for 18 months with the same doctor | Remote messaging; local GPs may be unfamiliar with your case |
| If there's a complication | Seen at the clinic, usually within days | Managed by phone, or you pay to fly back |
| Travel after surgery | Drive home the same day | Long-haul flight within days of the procedure |
| Total cost | From $18,000, all follow-up included | Package plus flights, accommodation, time off, and any corrective work at home |
Common questions
Asked at almost every consultation.
Am I too young or too old for a hair transplant?
We treat adults only (18+). Under about 25, hair loss is often still evolving, and Dr Noosh may recommend stabilising it with medication first so a transplant isn't undone by later loss. There is no fixed upper age; it depends on health and donor supply.
Does it hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic. The anaesthetic injections sting briefly; after that most patients describe pressure rather than pain. Expect tightness and some discomfort in the donor area for a few days. You'll be given a plan for managing it.
Will it look natural?
That's the whole point of doctor-led design: hairline shape, the irregular edge a real hairline has, graft angle and direction all follow your anatomy and existing growth. Look closely at the hairline edge in the case photos above and judge for yourself.
How long until I see the result?
Transplanted hairs usually shed in the first two to four months, then regrow. Most people see meaningful growth from month five, with the result continuing to mature through month twelve. Individual timelines vary.
Do you offer payment plans?
We'll give you a clear written price so you can plan. In line with Australian medical advertising rules we don't promote finance products; if you have questions about paying, ask the team at your consultation.
